Case Study: Bridging Sustainable Communities to Fight Hunger

Date & Room Location

Saturday, September 11th, 2010, 3:30 pm - 5:00 pm

Room assignment: Classroom 2

PUENTES is mobilizing 30 families in Stockton, California, to work on their own behalf to cultivate 5 acres of underutilized land to harvest and tend culturally appropriate food gardens, orchards, and animal projects. Our program will not just provide affordable, culturally acceptable produce to underserved neighborhoods; we will enhance social interaction, improve the quality of life, neighborhood beautification, lower family food budgets, improve eating habits, and help reduce crime in South Stockton.

This workshop will be a case study of the trials and tribulations, and success, that PUENTES 100% volunteer workforce have experienced while developing this project.
