Date & Room Location: TBD
The purpose of the workshop is to accelerate awareness and further the emerging interest by donors and development practitioners for Growing Power supported food and community development work in poor nations around the globe. It is designed to provide appreciation about causes of hunger and starvation and hope for Growing Power’s local food center model as a solution. The presenters will outline the Model as an alternative to scale-up and intensify local food production in poor food deficit countries in chronic need and dependence on food aid to meet the minimum daily nutritional requirements of infants, school children, lactating and pregnant women. Dr. Barry Colley will provide a short overview on the needs and hopes of the Model. Colley’s presentation will be followed by Mr. Robson Zimuto’s on Southern Africa ( Zimbabwe and South Africa) and Mr. Salifu Gumah’s on the West African nation of Ghana. Together, they will provide a cogent analysis of food insecure communities and outline indicators of success or the expected impact of the Model in building food security.
